About me

Grew up in beautiful Stokes County, NC – Timothy L. Porter has been focusing on his art for more than 30 years. While being naturally artistically talented at an early age, Timothy L. Porter officially honed his skills and completed his Bachelors of Fine Arts degree at the prestigious Atlanta College of Art, which has since merged with Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

There, he absorbed the acute attention to detail associated with sculpture,  ceramics, painting, photography and digital arts.

"For the past few years I have increasingly focused my artistic efforts on mastering the skills needed to become a master watercolor painter," Porter said.

"One of the beauties of watercolor painting is that sometimes you get pleasant surprises and there are other times not so pleasant, but I have learned that before you touch the paper with any paint, you must give it a lot of thought and you must always think about every color that you are about to use."

Timothy Porter is a self-taught artist with a life-long interest in art. In 2015 he began working with watercolors. His work has been exhibited in local and regional shows and galleries where he have won awards. He’s had some one-day Watercolor Workshops at his home Studio.

His watercolors are uniquely realistic, while having a feeling of you’ve been there as a child type feeling. He does this by using bright colors to catch the viewer’s eye, from vivid foliage and floral, mountain scenes and farm scenes. He creates rich earth toned abstracts with a blending effect with his watercolors and the paper, he allows the watercolor paint and paper to really do what they were meant to do. He is also a ceramic artist and he alternates between ceramics and painting throughout the seasons; check out his Upcoming Events for more information.

He has also had commisioned art work.

He was one of five artists featured for POP Art, where he was one of the five artist chosen to have their art work featured on a billboard through out the city of Winston-Salem, NC. This work got great reviews and great advertising for His piece of art titled: Fall Feeding.

His artwork has been featured in Floyd Center, for the Arts, The New River Biennial Exhibition in Pulanski Va., The One Way Show in King, NC., 2016 JAX Juried Art Exhibit, the FALC 21st Annual Juried Art Exhibit and New River Art Biennial 2015.

He was 2018 blue ribbon winner at the FALC 23rd Annual Juried Exhibition show in Cary, North Carolina.
